The One-Year Wish

In Cebu, a child throws her tooth onto the bahay-kubo roof and asks Daga the mouse for a strong new one. But there is a second tradition, quieter and older — she hides her next tooth in a special place, somewhere only she knows. If she can find it again exactly one year later, she gets a second wish. Some children never look. Some find it on the day.
