The Cotton-Wrapped Tooth
The River
A girl in Islamabad wraps her tooth in white cotton and walks with her grandfather to the river at sunset. He shows her how to release it — palm down, soft as a leaf falling. The cotton drifts a moment, then sinks, and the river carries the tooth somewhere her grandfather has never been and will never go. "It belongs to the water now," he says.
