Tandemuis
Tandemuis
Outside Pretoria, a child slides her tooth into the toe of her favorite slipper and sets the pair by the bed — like she has always done. Tandemuis comes overnight. Not a fairy. A mouse. He fills the slipper with a small handful of treats, takes the tooth, and is gone before the rooster crows. By morning, the slipper is heavier and the smile is one tooth lighter.
