Shake the Tin Can

In a yard in Kingston, a child drops her tooth into a tin can and SHAKES it — hard, loud, fearless. The Rolling Calf, the chain-dragging bull spirit that hunts the parishes after dark, will not come close to a noise like that. The shaking lasts only a minute. The tooth is safe. The new one is on its way. The Calf, somewhere out beyond the cane fields, snorts and turns away.
